Take Time for Art

Open Your Creative Pathway to Mindful Meditation

In-person Workshop

In a fast paced world, it’s often difficult to carve out a moment to reconnect the mind, body and spirit, and create that mindful space which provides for relaxation and healing.

Many studies prove that making time for creativity, refocuses, reconnects and reestablishes that balance needed in our over-active lives. Findings, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, suggest that mindful meditation can help ease psychological stresses like anxiety, depression, and pain.

Dr. Elizabeth Hoge, a psychiatrist at the Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Disorders at Massachusetts General Hospital and an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, says that mindfulness meditation makes perfect sense for treating anxiety. “People with anxiety have a problem dealing with distracting thoughts that have too much power.”

Drawing is meditation with your eyes open. Seeing clearly you reflect, absorb and draw out the nature of your observation and you. When you draw, you take a “visual breath”. Your mind moves away from problems, anxiety and fears and brings you to the present moment of drawing what you can touch, feel and see. Get connected to your own creative movement by making non-sensical connections of colors, lines and dots.

In observational drawing we “pull in” what we see and then allow it to move through our visual brain and into our drawing bodies. Drawing in and drawing out often creates a type of cleansing, rewiring and relaxing action.
